چکیده
During heavy rain on 1–2 June 2015 in central China, the Wuhan mesosphere–stratosphere–troposphere (MST) radar was applied to record atmospheric responses with a 30 min period. According vertical gradient of echo power above 500 hPa, tropopause height could be determined by MST detection. The descent clearly observed few hours before rain, and then recovered usual heights during rain. observation radiosonde line that radar. Both potential vorticity ozone mass mixing ratio variations at 100 hPa level implied fall tropopause. decent, enhanced echoes appeared upper troposphere, spectral widths became broader, large wind velocities were recorded indicated occurrence strong convective activities. relative humidity also found increase all tropospheric heights, including region close flow may have transported water vapor temperature decrease this recorded. It is very likely cooling induced descent.

Polarimetric radar observations during an orographic rain event
An intense orographic precipitation event on 5 January 2013 is analyzed using a polarimetric C-band radar situated north of the Alps. The radar is operated at the meteorological observatory Hohenpeißenberg (MHP, 1006 m a.s.l. – above sea level) of the German Meteorological Service (DWD). The event lasted about 1.5 days and in total 44 mm precipitation was measured at Hohenpeißenberg. Detailed h...
متن کاملA study of tropical tropopause using MST radar
Using the MST radar data of vertical wind, the characteristics of the tropical tropopause, following four different definitions, depending on 1) temperature lapse rate, 2) cold point, 3) convective outflow and 4) potential temperature lapse rate minimum, are studied. From the vertical wind data of the radar, the altitude profiles of temperature and horizontal divergence are derived, from which ...
متن کاملRain observations with a vertically looking Micro Rain Radar (MRR)
Measurements of rain were obtained with a vertically pointing micro radar (MRR) with 1 min time resolution and 50(100) m height resolution at the German Baltic coast on the Zingst peninsula (54.43°N, 12.67°E). The comparison with a conventional rain gauge (30 min integration time) for a fi ve months summer period show a correlation coeffi cient of r = 0.87 for the rainrate and agreement within ...
متن کاملDetection of rain/no rain condition on the ground based on radar observations
Detection of rain/no-rain condition on the ground is an important for application of radar rainfall algorithms. A radial basis function (RBF) neural network-based scheme for rain/no-rain determination on the ground using vertical profiles of radar data is described in this paper. Evaluation based on WSR-88D radar over central Florida indicates that rain/no-rain condition can be inferred fairly ...
